SongQuote: Walk On...

U2 | Walk On
........................

You're packing a suitcase for a place none of us has been
A place that has to be believed to be seen

You could have flown away
A singing bird in an open cage
Who will only fly, only fly for freedom

Walk On...

The Deputy Guitarist reports to the Senior Guitarist

Ever wondered what would happen if rock bands were to have a structure similar to corporate India? Let's draw and organisation chart, to begin with...

Two Tricks

"You have changed so much!", she said

"Seven years is a long time, when you are 17 or 24," he said, "but you look the same!"

"I know how to freeze time. It's my little trick." she said, with a wink

"Why didn't you use it when I was leaving then?"

"I learnt it while you were away... I had to find other things that would interest me, you know!"

"Oh! Did you learn other tricks as well then?", he asked her

"One more..."

"So? Gonna use it some time soon?"

"Well, I already did!"

"Really?"

"Ya, what do you think brought you back here?"

He laughed. Then he moved his hand on the railing and slid it over hers.
"Well, use the first one now!"

Sudden, Subtle, Slight...

Varun has already left for Neha's town,
Yudi is leaving for another town,
Krishna is out of town.

Kundu is caught up 6 days a week,
Sam & Utsav make the most out of their weekends.
Api is too busy to return my calls, even on weekends.

It's been almost a year that Dharmesh has gone abroad,
It's been more than a year that JD has gone abroad.
Hirachna will go from Bombay to Paris to Pune soon,
Dipti will go to Netherlands - she'll be back soon though.

Bhu is getting engaged today,
Krupa and Deepan will get engaged sometime soon;
Zaara and Zeyd will probably have a baby sometime soon.

The rest of you, may still be here for a while.
Things may still be the same for a while.
Or may not.

All those who have left home to live another life, I join the club.
I'll be in Bangalore in a week now.
And I don't know where I'm gonna be in another.

With a week to go, now there is a sudden, subtle, slight sense of discomfort.
Life, it's changing real quick.

Shikha and Sanjay #5

[Just another evening. Sanjay is sitting oh his couch, watching cricket, a bag of chips in one hand, a can of coke in another. Shikha enters the house, looking tired, almost dead.]

SANJAY
[gives her a glance, looks back at the TV screen]
Hey Shikh...

SHIKHA
Hi!

SANJAY
[a moment later, eyes still glued to the TV]
How was your day?

SHIKHA
[almost falls onto the couch]
Don't ask!

SANJAY
Okay!

[Shikha stares at him in anger but is in no mood to fight. Sanjay looks at her and chuckles. Turns the TV off]

SANJAY
Okay tell me, what's wrong?

SHIKHA
Nothing specific really... just too many little things kept bothering me. I'm getting really stressed these days, you know.

SANJAY
To be honest, sweetheart, you're not fit enough. Most of your problems exist because you don't exercise yourself at all.

SHIKHA
Exercise?!! Well I would be happy to do that Sanjay, if my work would spare me the time and the energy that it asks for!
You know it's easy to say all this when you have a 9 to 5 job in a fancy, air-conditioned bank with shiny coffee machines and flashy...

SANJAY
[interrupts] ...whoa, whoa, whoa! Now why are you getting into that? I'm sorry, I was just trying to help!

SHIKHA
[sighs] No I am sorry, Sanjay! Just a trip... guess it's all this stress... I'm getting very impatient these days... and frustrated... and tired...

SANJAY
...and fat! [Pats her tummy, giggles]
Have you noticed that, sweety?

SHIKHA
Ya thanks for the encouragement, darling. THAT made me feel better!

SANJAY
Anytime, honey. Need more of it?

SHIKHA
No that's sufficient for now... guess I'll just go to the bedroom and crash instead.

SANJAY
Okay! [starts laughing]

[Shikha punches him & leaves. Sanjay watches her go & turns the TV back on. Dhoni hits a six.]

Shikha and Sanjay are both MBAs for a year, married for a year and in love for a little longer than that. Instead of writing in a continuous story about them, I have tried to pick episodes from their lives and let the story take shape over time.

To the North-East

For years, I wanted to go to the North-Eastern states and the east-most I had ever been so far was Agra (ya, I know that's not East, I'm talking in terms of the longitude)

So, this trip had to happen! Just back from a 12-day trip to the North-East:

Flew into Calcutta on May 21st, then headed for Pelling in Sikkim, later going to Gangtok, Shillong, Cherrapunjee, Bomdilla, Kaziranga National Park and finally flew back to Bombay from Gauwhati on June 2nd!

It was quite a trip, I must say. Apart from clicking some of my best pictures so far (will keep posting them on pykih), I also had some crazy experiences:
  • Got stuck due to a landslide on my way back from Sikkim. Had to hitchhike my way ahead. Was very very lucky to get a lift (doesn't happen there!)
  • Saw the most beautiful girl in Gangtok. Fell in love with her... for a few minutes ;)
  • Fought with some people on a bus in Cherrapunjee and got off. Later hung on the ladder behind a packed Tata Sumo to chase the bus and get my camera pouch that I'd left behind.
  • Camped in a tent at Cherrapunjee... awesome!
  • Our shared Sumo collided head-on with another enroute Bomdilla on the single-laned ghats in Arunachal. The car suffered major damage but thankfully I lived to write this post!
  • A Rhino toppled a Maruti Gypsy at Kaziranga National Park while we were there... saw a vintage Land Rover toe it out of the ditch it had landed into.
  • Reached Gauwhati airport at 11.30PM for a 7AM flight the next day. There wasn't a single soul at the airport... not even a security guard. Slept off at an unguarded SBI ATM on the airport!
Guess there are many more stories, but these would be the most interesting ones.

BTW, I'd really recommend a similar trip. Expense, other than air-fare, was around Rs. 12 to 14 thousand. Let me know in case you need travel plans and recommendations.

Summing up my travel since mid-2008:
Ladakh, Goa, Lakshadweep and now this! It's been a good year, I guess :)
